FPGA to its extreme - Precise time transfer in a 10 Gbit/s SDH network

Today's advanced systems require more and more precise time synchronization. A research team at SP has developed a new method for precise time transfer over SDH networks. To verify this new method, the company InformAsic designed and implemented the required hardware which was based on an Altera Stratix II and high speed components from Vitesse Semiconductor. InformAsic faced several technological challenges e.g. the handling of 10 Gbit/s speed, and also the requirements of very accurate output signals with a rise time <25 ps and a jitter <10 ps. The solution has been confirmed by real life tests in the GigaSunet network.

Bjorn has been working with ASIC and FPGA designs since 1995. He is a co-founder of InformAsic. Bjorn has also been three years at Vitesse Semiconductor in the US and four years at Ericsson Microwave.
